What can car noises tell you about? The most important signals

A car is a guitar in the hands of a motorist. Any instrument must work properly, and you can find any defects either by visual inspection or, which is trivial, by the sound of strings or keys. The same principle works with the car: a characteristic noise when starting the car is a characteristic problem.
Recall: the car in fully working condition will not make any foreign and uncharacteristic sounds.

In addition to the snake or other creatures in the underhood space, hissing sound near the engine is usually caused by a leak of antifreeze in the cooling system. It's also possible that the vacuum systems have depressurized. This is not a harmless problem: if there is a leak, without antifreeze fluid, overheating of the engine may occur. If you are hearing snake noises from the engine, get it serviced right away!

It is normal that the car will make a clanging noise while driving on a mountainous terrain, but on a level surface without bumps - be alarmed. Possible defects in the car's suspension, as well as in the ball bearings. Defective exhaust system of the car is another reason for clacking.

Squealing or squealing

If the belt tensioner roller is worn out, it may well "squeal", the belt trivially slips when there is not enough tension. Drive belts need to be checked regularly, as does the alternator belt. The problem itself is easy to fix, but the consequences in the form of stopping the car at 2 a.m. are not the most pleasant.

Metal squealing

Such a problem is a clear signal to replace the brake pads. They squeak "on the brakes", as the friction coating is worn down to the final layer - the very one that reminds you of wear. However, if the squeak is constant - outside of braking - most likely the wheel bearing is also defective.

As a rule, crunching or cracking sound is manifested when turning the steering wheel: such a problem is a bell to the failure of the CV joint. This element is responsible for torque transmission from the box to the wheels. Do not procrastinate if you hear rustling or cracking of car suspension - you really need diagnostics here.

Underhood whistles and bumps

This is one of the most serious problems - it most likely looms over an engine malfunction. There are three key causes here, one with malfunctions in the combustion chamber in the engine. Another is with a faulty or clogged injector. Finally, ignition defects - such as a broken coil - are also possible.
